Mayor's Greeting

Takaaki Kotani
Thank you for visiting Oarai Town Homepage.

Oarai is a town of around 17,000 people located on Japan's Pacific coastline, Asia's eastern frontier. The Pacific Ocean, along with a mild climate, has helped Oarai develop into a town famous for its sightseeing, beaches and fresh seafood.
The town has continued to develop into the 21st century with the addition of the Waku-Waku Children's Science Museum and Aquaworld aquarium.

Oarai has excellent transport links with the Eastern Kanto and Northern Kanto highways offering easy access by car and nearby Ibaraki airport offering another route into the area.
Oarai's famous port links the Kanto Region and Hokkaido, enabling thousands of people to visit Hokkaido by ferry, and the port has also established a reputation as a destination for cruises. In this way, the whole of Japan is linked to Oarai, with the town welcoming over 4 million visitors every year.

Furthermore, with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner, Oarai hopes to market itself as a destination for international cruises.

With a prosperous history behind them, local people are justifiably proud of Oarai and work towards maintaining the town's reputation as a place where a vibrant, generous spirit is complimented by the deep roar of the Pacific.

Through this website, we aim to enable more people to find out about Oarai, and allow people from all over the world to come and enjoy everything Oarai has to offer.
